Tip: A Bad Time of Day for a Drink

Many caregivers find restoration in the relaxing powers of a glass of wine or a cocktail. But are you timing your drinking in a way that undermines your health?

Having a drink just before you turn in for the night can wind up disrupting your precious sleep, which is an even more restorative and necessary relaxant. What happens is that the alcohol disrupts your ability to fall into deep sleep. You may also become dehydrated and/or need to use the bathroom, which can awaken you and make it all the harder to fall back asleep. Better: If you want that drink, have it just before or with dinner.
